Wildlife Count 4 June 2023
We had a wonderful sunny June day for our Wildlife Count event. The wildflower meadow was in full bloom and we laid on some fun wildlife activities for families all around the churchyard!
We were fortunate to have a group from the IW Natural History Society with us for the afternoon. They were impressed with our wildflower meadow in the churchyard and they undertook a species survey. They identified 141 species. They kept a chart going so we could see what had been spotted. We had IW moth recorder Jim Baldwin on site and he took the photographs of wildlife.
Colin Pope, former County Ecologist, also identified a rare 'litmus lichen' on the wall of the church! In this video he explains his theory about how it got to be there:
